Hinduism is not a Religion, it is a way of life for 1000s of years. It is only after the entry of Christianity and Islam to India, Hinduism started behaving like a Religion .

In Hindu cosmology, the universe is cyclically created and destroyed with the the passing of Brahma days and nights. (Brahma is, while not rightly supreme, the creator of the universe.)
Each day and night of Brahma lasts for about 4.32 billion human years. Each day, the universe is created and each night the universe is destroyed. These are further divided into "yugas" or stages of human development.

A lifespan of Brahma lasts 100 of his years, or 311,040,000,000,000 human years. After his death (so to speak) there is a period of another 100 Brahma years, after which a new Brahma arises and starts the process over again.

The tangible, observable universe is "maya," an illusion of sorts that covers the true nature/spirit of existence, "Brahman." All gods and all living things are simply reflections of Brahman.

Sorry if that's confusing. It is, as you can see, complex.
