Best sources for learning about the history of Islam?

Does anyone know of a good book or website that tells about the beginning of Islam, and the things that Muhammed did during his life? I'm looking for one that's historically accurate and gives a descriptive account of Muhammed......specifically, about what he and the early muslims did concerning wars, marriage, people of other religions, etc. We kind of skimmed over Islamic history in a class that I took earlier this year, but I would like to learn more about it. Thanks in advance for any answers.
