My wife and I are pondering whether to enroll our 3 year old son next school year (this June), by then he will be 3 years and 7 months old. While he is showing interest in doing school works, like writing, coloring, and he likes to be around other kids, we are just not sure if he is already prepared to try the big school.

Help anyone? Thanks.

In my opinion, you should never rush your kid to school. I think it will be better if you let him learn at home for the first 5 years of his life.

My wife and i didn't enroll our daughter until she was 6. We tried to enjoy her at home as much as we could :)

Can't agree more. Father and mother are the most important mentors of any child. The only thing that school can offer and that family can't is the connection to the social world where your child learns to interact with the others. Other than that, family is a much better place to warm things up before exposing your child to the outside world. 6 or 7 is a perfect age to start attending schools.

isn't 6 or 7 already old for nursery? i was already in first grade when i was that age. lol.

seriously, my wife is the one more concerned (well, i am too) about our kid's preparedness or non-preparedness to get to the big school. we would often joke about that she just might be the one who's not yet ready to let go of our son. one of my son's cousins tried schooling at age 3 only to stop the following school year because the school said the kid just wasn't ready yet. she got back at 5.and we don't want that to happen. anyways, thank you both for your sound advice. very much appreciated :)

Some parents enroll their kids at the early age of 3. But I think that it all depends on the child. If he/she shows enthusiasm in going to school at an earlier age, then give it a try. Usually, kids go to school at the age of 5. Every child has their own ways of adapting to new environment. Just let them take their time and enjoy.

Not sure where you are from so I can't offer any advice on the way the school/pre-school systems work for you there. I can offer the advice though that going to a pre-school type environment is usually beneficial for a child, especially in the area of only or youngest children. Pre-school for that age group is similar to going to a camp where kids are simply introduced to things outside of their home life, interaction in a controlled setting with other children for example, a setting that is not the same as at home. They are introduced to group games, interacting with others, and team accomplishment. The age range you are talking about is a very good age for them to begin to learn these small things so that when it is time to go to an actual school they are able to function well in the new environment and are prepared to excel. One thing that I have noticed, at least around me is that what children are now expected to do in kindergarten at the age of 5 and 6 are the things that we were not expected to do until the age of 7 or 8 in first grade.

Allowing you child to go to a fun place usually for half a day at that age is a plus, if you begin seeing abnormal behavioral patterns such as violent outburst regressive behavior, loss of interest in usual activities then you definitely want to remove the child from the pre-school but this is extremely rare as long as the pre-school is a quality place with quality people/teachers.

I agree. Some kids shows interest in going to school at an earlier age. These are the kids whom known to be of early bloomer with the excitement to learn new things and to ponder on further studies. Some, go to school at the age of 5. It's a matter of how a child adapts to his/her new environment.

Generally after 4 years a child is able to understand what he looks and can understand easily so on average age of child for starting school is 5 years. When a kid started going to school, we should take care of more we should always try to appreciate them by giving some small gifts like chocolates

According to me 3 years is the right age to send child to play school and when he/she completed his/her 5 years he/she is able to adapt the environment of the school.
